Drone Soccer Fever Hits Europe: Team Korea Steals the Show

Introduction

All the tech Geek and sports fans, we have a news to share. If you have ever heard about Drone soccer, it has already entered Europe, specifically Italy. Trust me, it’s is an awesome form of entertainment. Picture this, it is a warm June day mid-summer I Bologna, Italy. The air is buzzing with excitement and thunder roars. It started the inauguration ceremony of the first ever FIDA Club Challenge in Europe. Before that, France, UK had already registered with FIDA. But for the first time, any kind of Tournament happened in Europe.

What the Heck is Drone Soccer?

To break it down, it is a form of sports entertainment. It does not have any age limit. You can start as low as 4 years of age and upper limit is any age. There are 5 drone balls on each side, total 10 having 10 drone pilots competing against each team. Only goal is to score goals through the goal post. It is 100% fun; the sport is futuristic requiring high piloting skills and team work.

Europe’s Drone Soccer Debut

Back in Bologna, this tournament was a big deal. Even the city mayor had announced the sports from his social media page. The Federation of International Drone soccer Association (FIDA) has hosted the event.

For three consecutive action-packed days (June 13-15,2024), the best of the best Drone soccer players had performed their game. The idea is to promote Drone soccer. Three teams participated the event. Team Korea, Team Italy and Team Turkey. Team Italy and Turkey were little inexperienced since the game had originated in Korea. But They have performed professionally. Obviously in the mini tournament, team Korea had won in big margin. But after the event the kids, teenagers and even adults were invited to practice drone soccer. And boy they were excited to play. It requires minimum time to learn the game unlike other sports.

The champions were given a trophy and medals respectively including the team’s coach. The event was covered by local journalists and even was broadcasted in Television Channel. After the event Mr. Suh Moon Lee, who is an official representee of FIDA gave a short speech. In his speech he thanked the event organizer, and hoped drone soccer spreads all over Europe. The event was followed up buy fireworks and dance performance and dinner party.

What’s Next for Drone Soccer?

Right after the event, most of the schools in Italy started talking, especially the students in social media. Because this is not only a form of sport, but it has an extension of education. They call it STEM education which includes Science, Engineering, Technology & Mathematics. Usually, these courses are designed alongside with Drone soccer Kits. It helps the students understand more on drone technology and inspire them to make a career towards science.
