What Is Drone Soccer?
Let me paint a scene for you… two teams in an arena facing off. 5 members of each team of drone soccer ball 5 The only goal is to score in the other end. So there will be strategy, technology, teamwork, high stress (scary), and excitement all of this will be into the game.
The Rise of a New Sport
Drone soccer may sound like something from the future, but it’s happening today. That sport experienced explosive growth in 2019:
300 teams created all over Korea
6 international teams participated (from France, USA, Japan, Thailand, Peru, and Malaysia)
8 tournaments including 7 national tournaments of Korea and 1 international championship
– 307 teams took part overall
But here’s the real kicker: The International Aviation Federation (FAI) has recognized Drone soccer as a demonstration sport. A shot that goes a long way in taking a shot!

THE KOREA DRONE SOCCER ASSOCIATION (KDSA) >>They are at the spearhead of the development and promotion of the sport. They have established a strong organizational structure with subcommittees:
Selection Committee: Group that categories teams and selects national players
Referee Committee: Trains officials, rules oversight
Game Comed: Organises tournaments and oversees player transfers
Technical Committee: Relevant laws and guidelines are established and drone technology is reviewed
Reward and Punishment Committee: Discusses awards and punishment
International Committee: Represents Drone soccer around the globe

As of 2024, six countries have created Drone soccer teams, namely, France, USA, Japan, Thailand, Peru, and Malaysia. But that’s just scratching the surface – other nations are salivating to get in on the action, with plenty fixing their eyes on a possible 2025 Drone soccer World Cup.
